He turns this innate gift into a reality, by first becoming the world's most prolific gambler. He hopes to use his winnings to buy his way into high society -- no less than the brainless Dijon-style belle, Dolly Oblong. He is a gifted mathematician and a natural fighter, who studies no profession but follows his potential at every turn. James Bond is a fictional character created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming in his novel "Casino Royale." In 1958 American author Anthony Burgess wrote "A Clockwork Orange," in which he borrowed heavily from Fleming's Bond for protagonist Alex DeLarge. The novel was adapted into a film of the same title in 1971 by director Stanley Kubrick. In 1973, after the release of the fourth film in the Bond series, "Live and Let Die," screenwriters George MacDonald Fraser and Len Blum were commissioned to write a Bond film treatment, which was titled "Casino Royale." After Fleming's death in 1964, subsequent James Bond novels were written by Kingsley Amis (1965's "Colonel Sun"), John Gardner (the complete "Christopher Sinclair" series from 1969-72) and Raymond Benson (1997's "The Life of Ian Fleming"). Fleming's estate officially approved the 2006 project by director Martin Campbell, which was planned as the twenty-first official Bond film. The promotion for "Casino Royale" began on February 19, 2006 with a teaser trailer, followed by a second trailer on April 10, which showed the logo of S.A. International for the first time. A third trailer was shown before "Wanted", which featured Eva Green as Bond girl Vesper Lynd and Daniel Craig as James Bond. Also during this time period there was a compilation of older footage of Casino Royale being shown at several cinemas featuring Craig. These movies served to positively market the upcoming release of the film to more people who have seen past films in the franchise. To coincide with the release of "Casino Royale", Sony Pictures Entertainment released a DVD of the film's predecessor, "Casino Royale" in high definition. The movie premiered on November 14, 2006 in Los Angeles, California and was released on November 17 in the United States. The soundtrack album was released by Sony Classical Records on November 14, 2006. The music can be heard during the end credits, when Bond finally strikes his nemesis Blofeld with a sniper rifle. The song "You Know My Name" is heard during the end credits, but not included in the official soundtrack album. In the United States, "Casino Royale" topped the DVD sales chart during its first week of release, outselling "Wanted". As of November 28, 2006, it has sold 2.8 million copies and earned a total of US$106 million in the US. The DVD was released on March 20, 2007. It is also available to watch on a free viewer from vieweraccess.com. In addition to an extended edition of the film, there is a 55-minute documentary containing interviews with Daniel Craig and Eva Green making-of the film as well as many interesting tidbits from appearances made by Bond's creator Ian Fleming at different events over his lifetime. cfa1e77820
